Lady Macbeth is presented as a multifaceted character in the play. A multifaceted character has many different aspects to their personality. This is shown through her maternity in nature and human qualities, which dissapear as her personality detiorates and she is driven to insanity. These are major signs that Lady Macbeth was not always evil.
Her maternity in nature proves her personality to be multifaceted. She has to ask to be 'top-full of direst cruelty' and demands 'unsex me' to the evil spirits. These requests are proof that she once had a caring nature and had to call upon spirits to take her humanity away. Her natural persona would not be able to commit evil so she sought out the help of spirits to make her evil. It is her human qualities, such as her maturity, that shows the readers that she is not naturally evil.

She is also shown to have fear or worries when she states that she does 'fear thy nature' will not be able to go through with the murder, when referring to Macbeth's kindness. This proves that she is able feel human emotions. In addition she had to have wine which 'made them drunk hath made me bold'. This proves that she had to conjure up enough bravery to be able to commit murder. She begins to feel unhappy as they continue to commit evil deeds, she states 'our desire is got without content'. True evil would feel happy because they are simply committing evil not from what they recieve after committing evil. This proves that Lady Macbeth is not truly evil. Evil has no fear nor a tendency to go insane from guilt, where as Lady Macbeth exhibits both
