In William Shakespeare’s play, Macbeth, William Shakespeare describes Lady Macbeth as a strong and independent woman.A strong female character is a woman that is simply about being able to persevere through extreme adversity. Lady Macbeth is a weak woman because she dies at the end of the play because of her ambition to kill Duncan and attempt other murderers. Her ambition leads to the breakdown of Scotland and to the murderer of King Duncan and at the end to the death of her and her husband. In the beginning of the book, she is a strong and fierce woman while Macbeth has a very weak relationship. She thinks that her feminine body is stopping her from doing her own jobs. As Lady Macbeth hears that Duncan is arriving to the castle at night, she manifests “ Come, you spirits / That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here,/ and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full / Of direst cruelty!” (1.5.41-45). Lady Macbeth is rejecting her female qualities. She is willing to kill Duncan on her own but she is afraid to do it. She wants to kill King Duncan so Macbeth becomes a stronger king and she becomes the queen. A messenger sends a message to Lady Macbeth that King Duncan of Scotland will be arriving at night to the castle.She is very manipulative and she is scared that Macbeth is too soft and calm to attempt a murderer. She wants Macbeth to feel less like a normal human so he attempts to kill Duncan as a cruel person. So Lady Macbeth convinces Macbeth using words that insulted Macbeth’s manhood to kill Duncan and attempt other murderers such as killing Duncan and Banquo. One of the weaknesses of Lady Macbeth is that she tells the spirits “unsex me here” meaning that she does not want to have and keep her feminine body and she wants to be as powerful as her husband.
