In the beginning of the play Macbeth was the character that everyone loved and respected. He was someone who had morals. As a tragic figure Macbeth possess many of the characteristics of what a tragic figure is. One characteristic that Macbeth has is hamartia. Since Macbeth possesses hamartia it means that he owns a tragic flaw which leds to his own downfall. At a first glance is does not look like Macbeth would have a tragic flaw, but once the the Wyrd Sisters (the three witches) told Macbeth, “All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!” Macbeth became intrigued by the idea of being king, but that means he would have to kill the current king, Duncan. Lady Macbeth knows Macbeth was born for greatness but he is not hungry for it and he, himself is too noble to do anything about it. He would not be willing to do what his fate told him he would have to do and become. But after the countless pushing and name calling from Lady Macbeth, Macbeth did the unknown and the unpredictable. He killed Duncan. The reason it is unpredictable because Duncan says, “Conduct me to mine host. We love him highly/ And shall continue our graces towards him,” this quote shows that Duncan entrusted Macbeth with his life and he believed that Macbeth would be capable enough to guide the people of Scotland into greatness. Duncan saw Macbeth as one of his close friends basically his right hand man. And with that quote the readers get to understand and grasp their friendship.
