Egypt and Mesopotamia similarities and differences. The definition of civilization is the stage of human social development and organization that is considered most advanced. An example of that is the two early river valley civilizations of Egypt and Mesopotamia. We would not be as advanced as we are now without these two civilizations. One reason technology has advanced since these times is because of an ancient flood myth in Mesopotamia. The Myth goes that for some time all people did was farm for food to feed their families but then when their was a flood there was a surplus of food which allowed people to do things other than farming. This surplus in food led to technology advancing through out time which is why we are so advanced today. And although these civilizations came at different time, they do have some similarities and differences. One way they were similar was that they were both theocracy's. A theocracy is a type of government where priests rule in the name of a god or gods. Another way their governments were alike was that they both had rankings in their governments where pharaohs were at the top in egypt and kings were at the top in mesopotamia and slaves and peasants were at the bottom. Another similarity between the two governments was how laws were made. The laws in Egypt were made by the goddess Ma’at and they were made of common sense and what the priests thought was right and wrong. And the laws in Mesopotamia were made by a king named Hammurabi and the laws were based off what was right and wrong to him. These laws are known as the the code of Hammurabi.
