To Kill A Mockingbird (TKAMB) by Harper Lee is a novel that demonstrated the racism against the African Americans. The book also includes several, other forms of prejudice that portray the unfavourable effects that was endured by innocent people. Night by Elie Wiesel shows the tragic childhood memories during World War Two. Six million Jewish people including Elie and his family were captured by the German Nazi. They were taken from their homes and established into concentration camps. These camps degraded, torchered, and killed Jewish people. To Kill A Mockingbird and Night are both books which revolve on three main themes. These themes are dehumanization , prejudice, and unjust treatment and violation of human rights.

An example of dehumanization in both novels is how they were both treated unfairly. In both novels the victims (blacks and the Jewish) were not given the fair treatment of everyone else. 'You come in here, boy, and bust up this chifforobe, and I'll give you a nickel.' (Lee 59). The whites would treat the blacks little to nothing. In Night the Nazi’s would make the Jews strip naked to make them feel lesser. Another way both novels showed Dehumanization is by making their financial life suffer. In Night the Germans would raid the Jewish shops and damage/steal anything inside. It created a major deficit for the Jewish to have money. In TKAMB the black people could not have any jobs that paid fairly well. They were even paid extremely less than the white people. An example of dehumanization only shown in Night the Jews were forced 80-100 Jews into wagons/ train carts. This shows that the Germans had no respect for the Jews to.“‘There are eighty of you in this wagon,’ added the German officer. ‘If anyone is missing, you’ll all be shot, like dogs….’” …show more content…

An example of prejudice in both novels is segregation. In TKAMB the African Americans had to stand on the balcony in the court room. In Night the Jewish people had to wear bright yellow stars. In both cases it shows how the they were separated from everybody else. The Nazis and the White people wanted to stay separated and distant from the African Americans and the Jewish. Also the Whites and the Nazis have prejudiced as prejudgment. They both immediately think the victims (blacks and Jews) are terrible. They do not even have to know the person to tell if they like them or not. An example of prejudice only shown in TKAMB hatred toward their skin colour. In the novel the most of the white people despise the black people just because of their skin."My folks said your daddy was a disgrace an' that nigger oughta hang from the water-tank!” (Lee 76). This is clearly representative of the views of the town’s, and how they are disrespectful to the black people. Another way prejudiced is shown is by age. In the novel Jem and Dill would not let Scout in the tree house because she was a girl. It explains how girls were treated differently from the males, and how it was equally fair between the genders. An example of Prejudice in Night is cultural prejudice. In Night the Nazis dispise the Jewish people simply because of their religious beliefs. The Germans blame the Jews for all of their problems and
