Othello is a play written by Willam Shakespeare, one of the greatest writers in the
English language. Shakespeare is known for numerous plays, most of his plays have different outlines. One of Shakespeare’s plays is “Othello” which explains how jealousy, manipulation, betrayal, love, racism, lies and suspiciousness can come from those who are close to us. Othello is regarded as one of Shakespear’s greatest plays, and is often studied and performed in modern times. Throughout the play, Othello’s status as an outsider is repeatedly emphasized, by both other characters and the actions took place by him.

Brabantio does not believe his daughter truly wants Othello and would not willingly marry him.
As well as other characters in the play, they see their marriage as a threat to the social hierarchy.
This sense of alienation and isolation contributes to his feelings and insecurity and vulnerability.
A “Moor” and a white woman together was not viewed positively because it was seen as a threat to the established social order. Othello also was seen as an outsider because of his skin tone.

The people of Venice attempt to grant Othello power during the play designating him to defend the Turks in Cyprus and the rule land. This allows us to believe that the people of Venice are accepting Othello as an outsider. He also does not get the same treatment as the people around him.
Othello also has disadvantages of what the others around him get which also makes him an outsider. Othello is often subjected to discrimination since he is in a predominantly white society. As he gets treated this way he sets himself to believe what others think of him as if he is satisfied with it because that is how they all treat him. Iago puts the most input and talks down to
Othello in such a way he is jealous of him. Overall, Othello’s position as an outsider is the result\of the racism he has faced and his isolation. Othello experiences within highlight the tragedy and the devastating consequences that can result within individuals when denied the same opportunities that others get around him.
