Slavery was never the cause of wars or many conflicts and arguments between sides and citizens. At the start, slavery was considered a necessity for the growth of the country and to ensure that the economy and society ran smoothly. Even though some people did argue that it was not right that slavery was seen as something justified and acceptable, I could even say that some white people believed they were doing a favor to black slaves and giving them a reason to live and work. But I think there is no connection between slavery and the Civil War. The people in the South had their own ideology and believed that slavery was needed for economic, political, cultural, and social aspects of life; all they wanted was more power. George Fitzhugh justifies slavery by discussing some supposedly positive aspects of enslaved people. He the Negro is a grown-up child and must be governed as a child, not as a lunatic or criminal (Document B). Some white people saw African slaves as childlike people who needed to be ordered or guided. Americans thought that African slaves weren’t capable of thinking on their own for simple things like saving money or planning for their future because of the ideology they were influenced by. They thought that was because they were far superior to African slaves.
