There are many similarities and differences in the ways that Mesopotamians and Egyptians saw religion and their gods. Both civilizations were polytheistic and assigned individual gods to everything around them. Also, both Mesopotamia and Egypt has theocracies meaning that they believed their leaders derived their powers from the gods. However, the biggest difference is that the Mesopotamians hated and feared their gods whereas the Egyptians loved theirs. Many examples exist showing the difference.
Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt shared many similarities. For example, the two civilizations both built pyramid shaped temples. Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt built these pyramids to get closer to the gods. The civilizations also had the same religion. This religion is called polytheism, which means the belief in many gods.
Mesopotamia & Egypt Mesopotamia means land between rivers , it is located between the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers. Egypt was located in Africa along the Nile Rivers. Mesopotamia and Egypt were both civilizations that began after the Neolithic period , they sprung up around 3000 B.C. However, despite being born during the same era, Mesopotamia and Egypt have differences just as much as they have similarities, politically, socially , and religiously.
Ancient Egypt would have never existed, and they knew how to use it to their benefit. Both river civilizations were dependent on the rivers for their nutrition’s. The Egyptians created irrigations systems which helped them farm around the Nile. The Tigris and Euphrates were the two rivers where the earliest civilizations began. The rivers were significant irrigations which allowed the society of the area to grow and also for transportation, which allowed them to exchange with different parts and become wealthier.
In the Ancient world, Life began around rivers. Throughout this essay I will be comparing and contrasting two of the prominent ancient civilizations, the Egyptians and the Sumerians. They had many cultural and governmental differences between them. Below are some examples. To start, each civilization began next to a river(s).
Geography played a huge role in the lives of both the ancient Egyptians and the Mesopotamians. It affected much more than crop cycles or the weather; it affected everything about the way each group lived, including the way each viewed their own separate gods. Egypt and Mesopotamia aren’t very far apart by our standards today, but those 900 miles back then made a lot of difference. The main things both civilizations had in common were things like being dry deserts that lay close to rivers with fertile soil for crops to grow. These similarities are what allowed both groups to flourish and expand into a long-staying civilization of people.
Civilization is the cooperation between individuals within a region. The first civilizations were Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations. Both civilizations acquired a different environment. However, their environment promoted religion, specifically polytheism. Although their environments were different, both civilizations were in harmony about the existence of many gods.
The colossal structures, stacked stories high, still dumbfound historians today on how they managed to build in such perfection. Theories have arisen how the huge blocks of stone were raised into position and why they were assembled at all. It is clear some were tombs for the king and his family but the subsidiary pyramids in the complex, puzzle archeologists on their purpose. The labor force needed to construct such a massive structure would require an advanced society, far ahead of other civilizations; not only in architecture but government as well. Building of the pyramids not only satisfied religious beliefs, but also benefited the economy.
Pyramids have many shapes, step pyramids that look like giant steps, bent pyramids that halfway to the top look as if it bent inward, and the Giza pyramids that look like the typical pyramid. All that was thought to be needed for their afterlife was provided, such as food and riches. The largest Egyptian pyramid is the Great Giza Pyramid built for Khufu.
Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt were two early human civilizations that lived during the bronze age in harsh desert environments located not far from each other. Both civilizations were built around rivers that they depended on for survival. There is evidence that these rivers had great influence on both the societies politics and culture. Egypt was built around the very strong and reliable Nile River. Ancient Mesopotamia was established in the fertile crescent between the less reliable Tigris and Euphrates Rivers.
