Just think. Nobody has any knowledge of the past. You do not know what color is, you have no emotion, and everybody is the same. The world that you live in is colorless, emotionless, drab, even lifeless. This is the type of world that Jonas and The Giver live in.
In The Giver the society does not realize the effect of their traditions. Jonas spectates a game that “he had often played with the other children, a game of good guys and bad guys, a harmless pastime that used up their contained energy and ended only when they all lay posed
The novels Code Talker and The Giver contain main characters that have a share in their similarities and differences. At a glance we see the characters as different in every way possible, but when you look deeper and think harder you start to notice that they are similar. Jonas from The Giver stands out among the dark eyed people because of his light eyes, and Ned Begay from Code Talker stands out because of his heritage. Learning to be different shows the readers that being original is good, but being unique is outstanding.
Imagine living in a world with no freedom, choice, individuality, and color. Would you want to live in a world like this? Most of you would have said no, but a boy named Jonas has no choice, but to adhere to his community’s rules. In the book and the movie, “The Giver”, by Louis Lowery, Jonas finds it difficult to accept his community’s way of life. However, after he becomes the receiver of memory, he challenges the community after discovering what the world used to be like before sameness.
The Giver Compare/Contrast Essay When some people hear the words ‘perfect society’ what do they think of? Take a look at our society, then take a look at Jonas’s society, between our two societies there are some comparisons and a vast amount of differences. For instance, the rules are different, as well as their family units and their individuality. While our society is more on the modern side, Jonas’s society is plainer. When it comes to the rules in our society, we don’t normally think of rules that are very extreme.
Jonas’s society is extremely different than the one we live in today. The first difference between The Giver and our society is the number of family members. In the book they can only have two kids, one boy and one girl; however, in America we are free to have as many kids as we would want. The second

Nothing is ever unique or different, it’s always the same. Every choice is made for them, every move the make being decided for them. This is how it was in the community, everything was the same always.

In modern society the rules do not say that people can not ride a bike without a given age, people can take food from the restaurants as long as the people paid for the food, people have the right to be different from other people, people can choose who they want to marry, how many children they want, what job people want to have in the future, people have
Giver Essay “The Giver” by Lois Lowry is about a boy, Jonas who has been chosen to be the receiver of memory in his community. The elders see Jonas as their next receiver of memory because he has the intelligence, courage, honesty, kindness, and curiosity, These traits help him gain the position of receiver of memory. The Giver is one of the smartest elders in the community is the only one with Jonas who has the memories. The memories were kept by the two people because the community couldn’t handle them so only the two people have to feel the pain and happiness in the memories. The community also eliminates the freedom of choice from the people because the elders decide everything for the people who live there.
“Perfection is shallow, unreal, and fatally uninteresting” (Anne Lamott). Can you picture our world as a perfect society? For perfection to be achieved everything would have to change. Through the book, The Giver, Lois Lowry shows how a perfect society is not always ideal for everyone. The rules of the society portrayed include a discipline wand, chosen spouse, and release.
This connects to Lowry’s warning because in Jonas’ society there is no chance to learn through the big mistakes that are made. In the society in The Giver, emotions were not felt, clothing was not one’s own choice, and forcing people out of the society was acceptable. All people should learn that giving up pain and difficult decisions could mean giving up freedom. Diversity in a community is a good thing and should be celebrated. When Jonas leaves the community he accomplishes going to a place with warmth, love, color. Jonas hopes that by leaving the community he is breaking the tradition of the Giver and the Receiver bearing all the memories. .Jonas changes throughout The Giver and as a result, tries to change the community. Jonas is a 12 year old boy with no emotions or feelings.

The depicted community at first appears to be a utopia, where hate and discrimination are abolished, but the emotionless society is quickly revealed to be dystopian as the story continues. They live in a world of sameness; there is no hunger, suffering, or war, but also no color, diversity, or sensuality. The protagonist, a twelve-year-old boy named Jonas, uncovers the truth about his community when he is assigned to be the Receiver of Memory, and acquires the memories from the past from an elder called the Giver.
“We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of others” (Lowry). In other words, this means that to get what you want, you have to get rid of other things you have. Although there are many similarities between The Giver and our society, there are a lot more differences like families, rules, and personal freedoms. For starters there are many differences with families between their society and our society.
