Because everyone should know the important facts about slavery, they should get a chance to watch Uncle Tom’s Cabin. It shows what happened to slaves, and how they were treated. It also showed what happened before slaves were treated decently. Even though there was still segregation after slaves were freed, it was a much better life for most slaves. There was a lot of things that disturbed me in Uncle Tom’s Cabin. One was they sold children away from their parents. I think that is very wrong, a child shouldn’t be taken away from their family. Children aren’t born and don’t like a race just because, they were taught to disrespect slaves and treat them like property. But some children didn’t care what their parents said and always treated them nicely. Another thing that interested me was some slaveholders would let their slaves go. They would sign paperwork, and the slave would be free. There was a bit of good in all the evil during the times of slavery. Some things I didn’t know that I learned from the movie were some people helped slaves. Some people for example the Amish would help the slaves disguise themselves so they wouldn’t get caught by slave hunters. They would help to get them clothes that would make them look like a man, or a woman. Another thing that enlightened me in the movie was that children were often confused as to why the slaves were chained up. They would question why that person was chained up. I learned a lot from the movie Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Furthermore slavery was an awful thing, it destroyed many people's lives. Many people didn’t get to experience what being free felt like, or being safe felt like. They were treated inhumanely and like they weren't human, that they were just born to be servants of other people with a different skin color.
