Literary Analysis of J Cole: How The World Influenced His Music J Cole is an artist that cares deeply about the black community. He cares so much that he dedicated an entire album to the black community. JCole also stands up to the political ideas in his music as well. The world often is what influences JCole to make music. Firstly, the album dedicated to the black community was called KOD. According to Rowan University “What KOD stands for is not concrete, and J.Cole has given the album title 3 different interpretations which are, “Kids on Drugs”, “Kings Overdosed”, and “Kill Our Demons”. This shows that this album has many messages just based on the title. Rowan University also states that “ The songs on the album KOD each have a message in them about 21st-century issues. Some of them are personal messages, while others are activism.” The first song is titled “Intro”. The lyrics start by saying, “Will someone please turn off my mind, My thoughts are racing all the time. There is no reason or no rhyme, Im trapped inside myself.” There is not a deep meaning to this verse specifically, but this could be talking about how his mind is always going through thoughts and he is applying that to his music. …show more content…

According to Rowan University, “From his childhood to his successful music career, he describes the transition with the lyrics, “This is what you call a flip”. He flipped from living in poverty to becoming a successful rapper. According to Study Breaks, “ Ten Keys to a Quarter-brick is mocking the modern-day rappers that flaunt their money and party for the public eye to see.” JCole is not one of those rappers that go around partying and posting it onto social media for clout. Jcole seems to be a person who has respect for those who lived in his position growing up which influenced his music even more to become the rapper he is
