Lacrosse has changed so much over the years, it has gone from a mainly indian tribe sport to “The fastest sport on two feet”(Wikipedia). Lacrosse was brought by the Native American tribes and they started playing lacrosse in the fifteenth century. People like lacrosse because you get to feel athleticism,toughness.hitting and teamwork all felt in sports from football to basketball. The game started to become popular in 1856 when the first lacrosse program which was the MLC (Montreal lacrosse club) appeared. Box lacrosse was invented by the Canadians because they wanted business in the summer months for ice hockey. Sometimes people don't think that there can be much between box lacrosse and field lacrosse but they would be surprised. The difference between box lacrosse and field lacrosse is that box lacrosse does everything smaller, for an example the nets are smaller, teams are smaller and box lacrosse plays indoor unlike field lacrosse. The protective equipment in the 1930s really improved. The equipment got stronger more protective and really distinguish how the men and women game are so different. The sport was getting so big so fast in the year 2000 that there were 1,273 programs all lacrosse the country. Then lacrosse took a big leap, it had doubled its lacrosse programs, there were about 190 programs that started a year from 2000-2007. California had the most high school teams in 2000 which was 40, Then in seven years it increased to 173 teams. Just like any other professional sport, the MLL had to start somewhere. Even though there numbers are low, they are increasing every year. It is a fairly small league considering that they only have eight teams and 230 active players. With the MLL being so small they have difficulties of growing there league to be as big as the MLB,NHL ,NFL and the NBA. The average lacrosse player make a salary of 10,000 to 25,000 per season which means most of the players have a side job to support themselves while they aren't playing. If you compare that to any other professional sports team that is insanely low. So as you can see the MLL is nothing compared to the NBA or any other professional sport, but that doesn't mean they cant. Lacrosse is growing everyday and more and more people are coming from baseball to lacrosse because of the physical aspect of the game. With lacrosse not being so popular a lot of the kids don't know what it is or how to play it until they are in high school or even in college, which hurts the MLL because they don't have as many experienced and devoted players in the league. The MLL has its struggles but they have so much potential to grow and succeed as a professional
