How much do you know about the global food system? Is it stable? How does war and political instability come into play with it?
The global food system is the process involved in the production, distribution, consumption, and marketing of processed and natural foods. My chosen issue is a threat because malnutrition and famine have been caused by the disruption of food supplies because of wars and civil strife.
My position is that war and political instability cause malnutrition and famine. The purpose of the paper is to convince readers that things such as civil wars and government collapse cause issues with the global food system.
Furthermore, political Instability and food security are dependant on each other. Things such as internal conflicts

If we alter the genes in certain crops, depending on if it succeeds, we can grow more plants that are resistant to drought, floods, heat, cold, and/ or are better for the human body. Another way to help improve the situation is by decreasing the biofuel production. Biofuel comes from organic matter such as plants and animal matter. Biofuels are not only more harmful to the environment, they can devastate the food system by increasing the devotion of agricultural land to produce food based biofuels. It has resulted in global displacement of people and rise in food prices. Finally, one more way to address the situation could be to help reduce food waste. It is an issue at production and consumption. There should be low cost storage methods that are close to farms and an improved transportation method. To help on the consumption end, clarification on “sell-by” and “best-before” labels can help reduce food waste which in turn will help better the global food system. These are ways we can help just the food system. There isn’t really a way to stop war or political instability. While there still may be conflict within countries, improving food security and food waste can help decrease the impact that conflict and political instability have on the global food …show more content…
I think the biggest problem that faces the system is war and political instability. Internal conflicts can greatly affect the agricultural production within a country. Increased violence increases food prices and make it harder for people to get access to food. It also increases transportation prices and puts more restrictions on foreign food. Some things that can help address the issue is GMO’s. If genetically modified organisms work, then they could greatly improve the issue. Another way is reducing the use of biofuels or even completely eliminating them. The last way to help would be to clarify “best-by” dates on food packaging. While I do not think we can rid the world of war, we can help lessen the damage that the conflict
