My thinking on prayer drastically changed from the beginning of the study to the end. When we began, I thought I knew everything I needed to know or there was to know about prayer. I knew the basics, but I was not fully grasping the concept. I knew that prayer was necessary to have a real relationship with God, but at the same time I did not think of it as very important. From this study, I learned that prayer is what connects us with God. It is more than just asking him for things and praising him when things are good, it is acknowledging who God is at all times. The most influential idea from the study of prayer was the idea that I should not be praying like a non-believer. After going over what it looked like to pray like a non-believer, I realized that was exactly what I was doing. I was praying only when things got hard or I wanted something. In the three days, I went through two different methods of prayers. The first and last day I went through the ACTS prayer. I like this method because it was easy to follow the steps without having to have a paper in front of me. I found this method to take not take very much time, so at the end of going through ACTS, I discussed my day and problems with God like I would a friend. The second method I used the second day was “A Starter Plan for Daily Prayer.” I chose this method because I felt it was a good place to start developing a firmer prayer life. I really enjoyed this method because it incorporated scripture and the ACTS prayer into one. This method also guides you into just talking to God at the end and pausing to admire God.
