How is Othello’s Flaw Turned Him Into a True Tragedy Hero Othello is one of Shakespeare’s four Tragedies that Shakespeare wrote it in about 1603. The story of Othello talks about, Othello’s true love to Desdemona was utilized by Iago who had an ulterior motive. Driven by jealousy, Othello readily believed Iago, and personally killed his own wife, and eventually drew his sword to cut his own throat. Typically there are different views on the protagonist Othello, some people said that he was a strong and profound hero with a noble soul. When he was provoked by Iago, he began to doubt his wife's loyalty right away. Besides saying he was trusting Iago, his patriarchy idea was the major villain. In his perspective, his wife’s cheating is unforgiving and shameful. Even if it is only a rumor, he began to wait to find evidence. As we know, “Despite the different social, cultural and racial backgrounds”(bachelorandmaster.com) between Desdemona and Othello. They have the most purity relationship compare with the other relationship in the play. “He loves her for her feminine grace and sympathy, and she loves him for his masculine heroism.” (bachelorandmaster.com) Iago knows that Othello is inferiority about his racial. In his mind, he was not good enough for Desdemona, so he treats his relationship with Desdemona as a treasure. Therefore when he sees the handkerchief that he gives to Desdemona as his symbol of love to her is in Cassio’s bedroom. He immediately entered the trap of Iago, and the evil mind of jealousy firmly grows in his. Since then he only believed what Iago said. When Iago is lying about him and Cassio were talking about Desdemona, he immediately began to boast of speculation. This is because he as a man has pride and vanity of his wife.In fact, Othello had the opportunity to ask his wife the truth, that is, in the castle in a room (the second scene in Act IV), he and Desdemona talked in the bedroom, however, he did not give Desdemona any chance to explain …show more content…

Othello never believed her. This is because, in his chauvinism mind, women are inferior, they should always be loyal to their husband. At this point, he totally forgot the love between him and Desdemona, he just wants to kill Desdemona to show his self-esteem. He abuses his wife as a "whore", humiliated her action, the is all because he cannot lay down his face and ask his wife about the truth, or he was afraid of the truth is like what Iago has said to him. Then as a man, he will honor, self-esteem, and dignity will lose. From Othello’s action to wife, we can say without asking the truth to the abusive wife is his way to show his self-esteem. This all because of his patriarchy
