Emma Fields Lee English 10- 2nd 13 March 2018 Teens Mirror The Media’s Activity 2018 begins a new year and new trends for celebrities, adults, teens, and adolescents. With social media like Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, and Twitter on the rise, teens are lead to these advertisers for advice. Personally being a teenager, our minds tend to think all content is safe and positive. Despite the nifty new trends, social media exposes teens to negative information which leads to body image concerns, development of anxiety, and adverse comments inducing to bullying. Teens, mainly young girls, presume the latest ideas on body image holding invulnerable matters. The media tends to put overwhelming information on the web. One representation includes celebrities and/or adults creating post allowing adolescents to mimic. Teens post photos/videos, resulting in likes or follows, therefore giving the adolescent an idea on how others like or dislike one's appearance (Social Media and Teens Anxiety). Researcher/expert Amanda Lenhart revealed social media creates anxiety stressors. Examples of anxiety stressors include the following: •“Seeing people posting about events in which you are not invited. •Feeling pressure to post positive and attractive content about yourself. •Feeling pressure to get comments and likes on your post. •Having someone post things about you that you cannot change or control” (Social Media and Teens …show more content…
