Assuming the audience is parents that have a teenage girl or boy, Hurley writes this article by giving information, but also advice for parents too. The audience would most likely benefit if they are parents of teenagers. Hurley states that the impact social media has on teens’ mental health is still unknown due to media constantly changing, and the lack of long-term studies. The contents of the article include mentions of multiple studies and results from different universities.
As a teenager in the 21st century, social media is a gateway to communications, relationships, news, etc. However, this gateway may be infested with people who want to hurt another. These people can hide behind a screen and send hurtful messages anonymously. If left unattended, these messages may have a negative effect on the receiving end. Social media can be harmful; although there is more evidence to help support that it is also helpful to many teens across the world. Social media can make kids feel more self-confident. On social media teens can make their voices be heard when it’s hard for them to speak out in public; also, social media can make teens and tweens stop doubting their dreams and goals but make them go for it instead.
More and more people are changing their way of dating especially adolescent girls. Social media, dating applications, and pornography are the major contribution to the changes. Thanks to those outlets, expectations from these girls are higher than ever. Girls’ digital lives are affecting their in person social lives more ways than ever.
American Youth on Social Media Society today is faced with the continuing problem of social media. What was once used as a tool to help mankind, is now the cause of teenage obesity, lack of social skills, and teenage menopause. Social media's suck the imagination and creativity out of these poor teenage souls being forced to be slaves by Facebook, Twitter etc. They take over the youth and turn them into helpless robots that make them unfit to live in society.
