In the book, Divergent by Veronica Roth, the main character,Tris, changed over the course of the book due to the struggles she has to overcome.
Tris was a very different person in the beginning of the book than the end, constantly changing and developing as a person. Tris grew up in Abnegation a factor that prioritised selflessness and helping other people. Tris was timid and did not believe in herself, she felt guilty that she was not naturally selfless like the others around her, but instead curious and had a longing for something new. On page 1, Tris states “I sneak a look at my reflection when she isn't paying attention-not for the sake of vanity, but out of curiosity.” Tris starts to notice that she feels different than everyone else when she start questioning the values of the Abnegations and whether she truly belongs there. Tris is very confused in the beginning of the book because She has been told one thing her whole life, but yet dares to look in the mirror at her reflection, it concerns her that she is not like the people that surround her.
