Chicago’s Rap History Info Chicago is very diverse city with a population of 9.4 million people. One of the most special parts about it is it’s musical history. There were five major stages of genres, the blues, rock and roll, hip hop, mumble rap and trap. The blues has a swing tempo and a build up kind of thing.
As a result of having to adopt a completely new and unfamiliar language quickly, as a mechanism of survival, African slaves developed a pidgin that coexist within the present Black community. A pidgin language possesses syntactic, grammatical, and phonological rules while ridding itself of the superficial aspects of language (Smitherman, 192). According to Zeigler and Sonubi, African American English (AAE) is an example of decreolization, a creole language that has moved away from its original form towards the linguistic patterns of the majority language (592). This decreolization is a result of the general disapproval of the dialect and is evident in the frequency of code switching that is present among AAE speakers.

The article “From outside, in,” by Barbara Mellix reveals the difficulties among the black ethnicity to differentiate between two diverse but similar languages. One is “black English”, which is comfortable to her while speaking with her family and community and the other is “standard English”, generally used while talking in public with strangers and work. Since childhood Mellix was taught when and where to use either black English or standard English. To illustrate, seeing her aunt and uncle in Pittsburgh, where there was wide range use of both languages, she learned to manage both languages with ease.

Language then became an important part of African American culture, whether it be a “secret” language used to help slaves escape, or to tell stories and folklore to children to encourage and motivate them, or express African proverbs from generation to generation. There has been many times when other races seem not to understand what African Americans are saying because of the slang terms we create that then become popular terms, most recently has been the phrases “on fleek” and “twerking”, to name a few examples. At this time people created new words as the English vocabulary was a lot smaller than it is today and so people felt the need to invent new words to express themselves. Nowadays slang is used much more frequently, with the influence of technology having a great effect on the use of slang. Some people think it has a positive effect on the English language, while others think it is having a negative effect.
Standardization of the English Language English was not the original indigenous language of Britain. The first arrival of the Anglo-Saxons in Britain, the inhabitants of the country spoke Celtic languages. Yet English shows few dialects brought by the Germanic invaders. Nor was the subsequent growth of English within Britain a smooth or inevitable trajectory. After the Norman invasion, English was not the first language of the ruling classes.

They communicate either with each other using language in every social interaction; communicate with others directly or indirectly in the spoken and written form.
