When we talk about expansion of higher education, globalization comes to my mind. In the 21st century higher education has become a competitive place. Universities compete for status and ranking, overall these ranking is done to get governmental funding and even private sources. Globalization impacted the higher education system all around the world. If we look at China, India, Taiwan their economic growth and their expansion of higher education are closely aligned. Governments also lack when it comes to provide financial support for the expansion of higher education system.

Pell grants has been increased from 2007 to 2013, and it covers the major part of financial aid assistance provided to students. If we look at the number of Pell grants it has been increased from $16 billion to $33 billion. It helped Educational institutes to get larger amount of student enrollments.
