The god and goddess were used as a means to explain the environment in which humankind lived, the natural phenomena they witnessed and the passing of time through the days, months, and seasons. They were highly respected. Temples and coliseums were built in their honor. The Olympics were held in honor of the major god , Zeus. The citizens would have statues in certain places and they go and pray to each different god for their troubles.

Each god or goddess had something they were known for example would be Poseidon god of the sea. So generally they didn't believe in just one god. Some of the myths are the same. There is one about a flood wiping out humanity cause Zeus hated how mankind turned out but only a man , woman and a few species survived by floating on a crate it's like Noah and the ark just smaller. If crops weren't good they would pray to Demeter the goddess of agriculture. Hellenism is a religion that just focuses on the twelve main gods and goddesses. …show more content…
