Tim Burton is a producer and film director. He creates dark, fantasy movies using lighting, editing, music and sound. This makes his viewers feel the characters emotions and create mood. In his films, lighting and colors is one of the main ways he creates mood throughout his movies. In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory he starts off in the town with dark and cold colors. This makes the audience feel depressed with the characters. When the characters finally enter the chocolate factory he use bright lighting and vibrant colors to create a cheerful and happy mood. In another one of Burton’s films, Edward Scissor Hands, he shows the town as a colorful, bright place that is not intimidating but, when the castle that Edward lives in is shown it is dark and full of shadows. In Big Fish, he uses editing to put you in a new setting as the story goes on. Editing is important in his films because it gives the audience a clearer picture and understanding with the movie.
