In the world there are many injustices, right now there is an injustice happening. A lot of books help show that injustice happens not always in big moments but, also in everyday moments. In the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee the main theme is injustice. There are a lot of injustices, including during the Tom Robinson vs Ewells court case. Another big injustice is how the town of Maycomb treated Tom Robinson and Boo Radley. There were many other injustices throughout the story, even very minor ones. The town of Maycomb treated Tom Robinson very unfairly. In court, Mr. Gilmer the prosecution lawyer was very rude to Tom because of the color of his skin. Radley wasn’t known well by anyone except his parents, who died. Since Boo was well known, he would be blamed for anything thing that went wrong. “Any stealthy small crimes committed in Maycomb were his work… people’s chickens and household pets were found mutilated; although the culprit was Crazy Addie... people still looked at the Radley Place, unwilling to discard their initial suspicions.” (Lee 8). Because people kept blaming him for things he didn’t do, his reputation spiraled down. People to started making made up stories about him. Atticus tells them a prime example and Miss Maudie explains it. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” (Lee 93) The main characters in TKAM (To Kill A Mockingbird) Tom Robinson, Atticus, Boo Radley, and Scout were the Mockingbirds. They did the right things but, they still got persecuted for it. Tom was attacked the moment he was seen in Mayella house. Atticus was attacked for doing his job, when he chose to defend Tom Robinson. Boo was attacked because of his past and the town fed off of that and made it worse; people made up stories explaining that he is a criminal that only comes out at night.
