As the first year of Donald J. Trump’s presidency draws to a close, it’s natural to look back and reflect on changes the country has seen since he first took office. As was the case during the campaign leading to his election, Trump’s presidency certainly hasn’t been without controversy. This is particularly the case in many of his actions thus far, including many policy changes seen from the early days in his presidency. Topics including immigration reform, healthcare, and climate change, all topics Trump passionately argued during his election campaign, are now seeing action in policy making under the new administration. As president, Trump has to be able to balance national security and international relations, and a lot of his opponents thought that his ban didn’t effectively handle either issue. Another controversial issue in Trump’s presidency is that of healthcare, especially women’s healthcare in regards to abortion. According to a report by the BBC, Trump has previously stated “that abortions should be illegal and he supported ‘some form of punishment’ for women who had them. His campaign quickly backed down from that statement, however, and asserted that the candidate believed the legality of the procedure should be left up to individual states, with any criminal penalties being reserved for abortion providers. He has said he supports an abortion ban exception for "rape, incest and the life of the mother".
