In the book, Guns Germs and Steel by Jared Diamonds, chapter 14, From Egalitarianism To Kleptocracy indicate and explains the political organizations in our society. The nomads who were known as the hunter-gatherers belonged to a group called Fayu. Fayu was made up into four different types of groups that Diamond explains in this chapter, such as; bands, tribes, chiefdoms, and states. Between these four groups they explain the lives of the people in New Guinea. Diamond supports the idea that government is important for the preservation of human society. The first group is called the bands. They recognize the opposite extremes along the spectrum of human societies. A band’s membership settlement is a dozen and it is the tiniest society with a population of 5-80 people and that’s it. This group has a lot more complex bureaucracies, they have laws, treaties, and police. The laws are often written by literate elite. They are usually selected of training and ability. States food production is produced by four specialist groups which are cereal farmers, herders, fisherman, orchard and garden growers. Back then states dealt with a lot of slavery a lot more than chiefdoms did. They had more use of it, more economic specialization, more mass production, and more public works. The division of labor in states is everyone has to do their own part, and the land control is various. For example, if the group gives stuff to people, they’ll want something in return or sometimes they’ll give something to somebody and they’ll not expect something in return.
