The challenges in life can affect you in many different ways, the type of person you are depends on the way it changes you. The Scarlet Letter show this in the life of Hester, she is faced with the sin of adultery and she makes the best out of it. She take the ¨A¨ and changes the meaning of what the townspeople think. She shows that just because people label you as something doesn’t have to stick with you forever. Thesis: In the novel, “The Scarlet Letter” the symbolism of the “A” changes from Adultery, to Ability, to Angel, finally the living “A”.
In the beginning of the book Hester sleep with a man that is not her husband. She ends up getting pregnant and the society she lives in deems her as an adulterer. The town makes her wear an ¨A¨ to show how she commited a sin with a guy that she doesn’t have relations with. The townspeople wanted her to wear the “A” to show everyone the sin he committed. “Thus the young and pure would be taught to look at her, with the scarlet letter flaming on her breast,—at her, the child of honorable parents,—at her, the mother of a babe, that would hereafter be a woman, —at her, who had once been innocent, —as the figure, the body, the reality of sin.” She was to put on the “A” to show the sin …show more content…

She decided that she was going to give everything to the poor after taking care of her daughter and herself.
