The history of Cuba began with the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492 and the assault of the island by the spaniards. Native groups where the Guanahatabey, Ciboney, and taino all inhabited the island. But most of them soon died from diseases or shock from the conquest of the spanish. Colonial society developed after Spain colonized the island in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. when Fidel Castro came to power in 1959, the relationship between the U.S and Cuba quickly advanced to bitter arguments, political grandstanding’s and the seldom international crises.
