During this class, we read many interesting books that I enjoyed. They all changed my views on life in different ways and made me glad i chose to take this class. The novel that impacted me most was Catcher in the Rye, which was written by J.D. Salinger. I was able to relate to the main character, get attached to the novel, and make connections to the real world today. The main character, Holden Caulfield, is a 17 year old boy who is very wise but tends to dropout of various schools. I have never dropped out of school and do not plan on it but Holden seems to be very depressed and not getting the help he needs. I have not been clinically diagnosed because I have not been seen by a professional for it, but I have felt the same emotions he has. Holden always wants someone to listen to him and possibly give him advice or to just simply hold him and tell him everything will be okay, even if you are not okay at the moment. Holden was easy to understand and talked in a way i could read clearly. Holden is about to reach his adult years, which is where most people hit depression. Various young adults begin to fear and overthink their future and feel forced to figure out what they are going to do for the rest of their life very fast. Because of this, people get into jobs they do not enjoy just to get money. I, personally, would like to live the rest of my life working at a job doing what i love. Holden is just like any other human, he worries about how other people view him and beats himself down when someone does not like him. As most attention-wanting high school girls, he wants to bring attention to himself so people notice and talk to him. The only difference is that he just wears a hunting hat for the attention.
