Fredrick Douglass's experience stood out from the others because it shows how it was after and before, yet he doesn't tell his experience escaping slavery. In the source "A Narrative Of The Life Of Fredrick Douglass, an American Slave" It states " At the end of each week, pour the reward of my toil into the purse of my master (29) ... He believed me entitled to the whole of them... My discontent grew upon me. I was ever on the lookout for means of escape; and, finding no direct means... to make my escape... I left my chains, and succeeded in reaching New York without the slightest interruption of any kind.
In the story it was stated that Douglass always dreamed of receiving hi freedom, yet Fredrick Douglass had multiple opportunities to escape slavery. Mr. Douglass could have escaped slavery when he conspired with other slaves to sail up the Chesapeake Bay. If they left when they had the chance instead of waiting maybe they would not have gotten caught. Also Fredrick could have tried to escape when returned to Baltimore to work at the ship yard. In my opinion Mr. Douglass stated that he desired to be free but waited until he was a man to do so

He broke down the wall that would limit his education and his ability to move up in this world. In comparison, Fredrick Douglas’s moment was not as glorious because he soon realized that he was a slave and that any hope of him being free where slim to none. Douglas lived in a different time where, even with the ability to read and write, a slave would still continue to struggle just because of the color of his skin. This is why he stated, “It had given me a view of my wretched condition, without the remedy” (Mcquade, Atwan, 109).
During the period in which there was the terrible fight against slavery, Frederick Douglass considered himself as a delegate for political cause. The African American author tried to refute every single argument employed against slaves and it was clearly seen throught several scenes of his narrative especially in the scene with the wife of Master Hugh, Sofia Auld who taught him the art of reading. She had never owned a slave before. Thus, she was very sympathetic with him. Using this statement, Hugh Auld detailed some joint ideas concerning slaves and the widespread slave holding in the South over the 19th century.

Mr. Covey, who Douglass has been sent to by his master to be broken, has succeeded in nearly tearing all of Douglass’s dreams of freedom away from him. To expound on his desires to escape, Douglass presents boats as something that induces joy to most but compels slaves to feel terror. Given the multiple uses of repetition, antithesis, indirect tone shifts, and various other rhetorical techniques, we can see Douglass relaying to his audience the hardships of slavery through ethos, the disheartening times that slavery brings, and his breakthrough of determination to obtain freedom.
Fredrick Douglass is one of the most famous abolitionists the United States has ever seen. The events that led up to his freedom of slavery were very interesting. In his Narrative you not only get to see the worst of slavery, but you can also feel firsthand what Douglass went through to get his freedom. As we all know slavery was something you could not just walk out of. Some slaves that try to escape even end up getting punished or killed.
In Frederick Douglass’s book, he writes accounts of his time in slavery and beyond. Throughout the book, Douglass writes about not only the physical hardships slaves endured, but the mental and emotional hardships as well. In Chapter X, Douglass describes a battle he had with a temporary slave owner named Mr. Covey. After the fight concludes, Douglass writes, “This battle with Mr. Covey was the turning point in my career as a slave. It rekindled the few expiring embers of freedom, and revived within me a sense of my own manhood.
Many slaves fear even the idea of escaping because of the possible consequences that come along with it. Therefore, the escape of Frederick Douglass is relatively substantial. Douglass says he feels “like the one who escaped a den of hungry lions.” He feels fortunate to have accomplished something that not many have been able to. Unfortunately, his happiness is short lived.
Douglass managed to overcome the maltreatment of his wretched slave owners through the eventual attainment of freedom. The injustice imposed upon the African-American slaves by their owners was the crux of Douglass’s motivation to escape this inhumane life. Douglass is always curious and he never gives up even when he finds several obstacles in his way, because he perfectly knows what his goal is: he needs an education to get his freedom. He is determined to get it even though it requires a lot of hard work. Douglass is sure of the potential of education. As a matter of fact he knows well that knowlegde can change his life while leading him to freedom. Douglass has both the motivation and the determination because he is aware that owing to education he can get to great places in his life, and that education makes the world a better place
