“Howl’s Moving Castle”, is an outstanding fiction novel written by Diana Wynne Jones that unfolds a non-existent time where witches and wizards existed. At first, when I began reading I instantly became immersed with the characters and dialogue. Thus, I continued and began to read until the very end of the novel, page 111. Initially, I started reading on June 27 and finished on July 3rd. It was full of emotions and shared many great lessons and themes, it was enjoyable. In the novel, the eldest of three sisters Sophie Hatter manages her late father’s hat shop, “Hatter 's Hat Shop.” in the town of Market Chipping. However, one day she is met with an unfortunate and unexpected guest named The Witch of The Waste and is instantly transformed into an old woman in her mid-nineties. Due, to the wicked Witch of The West’s stray memory, she mistakes Sophia for her younger sister who interfered with her finding Howl. After, entering the castle she is greeted by a fire-demon, Calcifer, who makes a bargain with Sophie. “If you can break the contract between Howl and I [Calcifer], then I’ll return you to your original youthful teenage form.” She agrees but “neither Howl nor Calcifer can disclose the main clause of the contract to any third party.” Throughout the novel, Sophie tries to figure out the specific hints, that aren’t easy as said than done. Thus, as Sophie tries to help Wizard Howl in order to find these hints she does not realize that she is getting closer to The Wicked Witch of The Waste than she knows. Eventually, Sophie finds out that the Wicked Witch wants to find and steal Wizard Pendragon’s heart, which is found within Calcifer’s flamed body towards the end of the novel. As Howl’s heart is restored he finds that his heart truly belongs to
