Most directors and managers focus on improving the efficiency of processes with the software currently available, but ignore solutions that require major changes. Developing new applications is expensive and time consuming, so for them, there is no urgency to take the risk if not required. Legacy software has been used since the 1970’s with enhancements, but the overall framework is outdated and future capabilities are limited. I will share my experiences and propose new ideas to improve current procedures from the perspective of a junior analyst. We can learn from each other which aspects are tricky and need stricter procedures or quality assurance steps added. As a group, we can brainstorm how this error occurred and how it can be avoided in the future.
Facilitate working from home during snow storms by providing secure laptops. As a national company, SEI relies on one call center in Pennsylvania to service all U.S. customers. It is essential to have a virtual phone system integrated into the support lines. It is not economical to house an emergency team in local hotels each time it snows.
Establish a procedure to transfer in Real Estate Investment Trusts, because it is a common problem for customers who must help coordinate with the transfer agent to reregister their holdings to SEI. Most employees are not familiar with the special DRIP system to request the shares, and even less familiar with reregistration paperwork.
