In the book "The Adventures if Huckleberry Finn", Mark Twain's writing mirrors the society and problems it had in that time. This book promotes seeing African-Americans as people, which is absolutely groundbreaking and unheard-of in the time it was written, right after the Civil War. Throughout the book,, Huck has a complete change in his feelings towards Jim, starting with his highly influenced young mind, only able to view Jim as a slave, all the way to seeing Jim as a father-figure who can protect and provide for him. Although Huck tries to see Jim as a friend and fatherly-figure, society's beliefs don't allow him to see Jim as anything but a slave.
This is an analysis of the main character, Huck in the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. He is a boy. He is adopted widow Douglas and her sister, Miss Watson. He has a father who is a very drunk and often attaches his body every time that his father encounters him. Main Character Finely Jacobs, also known as Finn, was a sixteen year old who lived on a small town, named Colt River, New Jersey. Finn lived on the countryside of Colt River so she usually dressed in overalls, nothing fancy. Occasionally she would dress up, but this was a rare event. When Finn would dress up both her parents got excited and took pictures of her. Finn is characterized as a charming girl who constantly compares herself to her best friend, Chloe.
Very well written post! In response to the first question you posted: I think that the Duke is merely just using Huck because he thinks he is young and can be easily taken advantage of. In the end of Chapter 30, Huck has made the decision to go and save Jim from the people he was sold to. On his way to do so, he meets the Duke on his way. The Duke says that he will tell Huck where Jim is if Huck agrees not to turn in him and the King.
Huck is very distraught when he has to sit back and watch the girls and the slaves cry as they are all separated from one another, which shows that he really does have compassion and sympathy for others. He only stops himself from telling the girls about the gang due to the fact that the sales will be irrelevant and that the slaves would eventually return home. He also stops himself from telling on the gang to spare the girls' feelings as they went through the tough time of losing their father. This situation in a way shows that Huck is able to recognize when he needs to refrain from saying certain things because the consequence of saying them could result in detrimental events to follow which adds to his growing maturity.
The book, The Adventures of Huckleberry and Finn, plays with many different controversial topics such as slavery, racism, abuse, and religion. The topic most talked about in this book is slavery/racism because of Huck’s relationship with Jim, a runaway slave. Throughout the book Huck struggles with how he should treat Jim and if he should stick to his morals and what his conscience is telling him or if he should stick to his heart and do what he personally believes is right. He can either turn Jim in back to his owners and into the slave trade, or he can continue to travel with him and help him gain his freedom. Huck Finn for the most part is a alright guy for the most part, however he does have some bum traits. For one, he is only tied up in the now, he doesn’t really care for things that have happened in the past, so he doesn’t really care for peoples history. Also he is not completely opposed to stealing things from people, however he only does it if he needs to. Finally he is can be very spiteful, and do anything he can to keep you from getting what you want, should you be on his blacklist. With that all being said, Huck will often feel remorse after he does something bad, and will try to make things better.

Huck has been burned with the idea that he is to blame for Jim’s escape. Huck ultimately feels guilty because he knows he has not done wrong but he has no reason not to believe what society thinks because he was only taught one way. Huck imagines an alternate scenario, thinking “s’pose [he]’d’ a’ done right and give Jim up, would [he] felt better... No…[he'd] feel bad” (91). Huck is aware that the right decision based on society is to give up Jim.
Although there are numerous instances where Huck’s moral growth can be seen, the individuals around such as Jim, will influence his moral growth greatly. Jim, a runaway slave, is the most influential individual when it comes to Huck’s moral development. During the beginning of the novel, Huck’s morals are primarily based on what he has learned from Miss Watson. Huck begins to become wary of such ideals that Miss Watson has imposed on him, and decided all he wanted “…was a change” (Twain 10).
Huck thinks about Miss Watson and how he is betraying her by helping Jim escape. Huck encounters slave catchers and he is internally whether to tell about Jim but decides not to and says, “They went and I got aboard the raft, feeling bad and low, because I knowed very well I had done wrong, and I see it warn’t no use for me to try to learn to do right; a body that don’t get started right when he’s little ain’t got no show -- when the pinch comes there ain’t nothing to back him up and keep him to his work, and so he gets beat” (Twain 102). Then later in the novel Jim is sold by some con men for $40 which upsets Huck and causes him to realize he cares about Jim and says, “All right, then I’ll GO to hell” (Twain 225). Huck is defying society’s laws by deciding to help captured Jim. Huck is maturing significantly because his perception of Jim has changed.
Upon discovering Huck on the island, Jim is relieved to see him. “It 's too good for true, honey, it 's too good for true. Lemme look at you chile, lemme feel o ' you. (Twain 53)”.
