Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a novel written in 1885 by Samuel Langhorne Clemens or as he is better known as, Mark Twain. This novel was published by Barnes and Noble Classics, and it is 293 pages, not including the endnotes. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is considered a classic among American Literature and is a favorite among many students and teachers. Huckleberry Finn tells of the adventures he experiences and the many places he travels in Missouri. His story takes place around the 1830s to the 1840s. The novel is told in first person point of view in which Huckleberry is the narrator. The main protagonist is Huckleberry Finn but Jim and Tom Sawyer can also be seen as side protagonists. Huck also faces an internal conflict of struggling to do what is believed to be right by society and his those around him or what Huck believes is the decision that provides justice. Throughout the rest of the story Huck tries to help Jim escape slavery and become a free man.
In the exposition, Huck is around the age of 13 and lives with the Widow Douglas who tries to get Huck to learn more about the bible and become more well mannered. Huck spends much of his time creating mischief with his friend Tom and befriending a slave named Jim. Huck’s abusive father comes to town and tries to shame Huck for his ability to read and write. His drunk of a father also thinks that he is entitled to take Huck’s money for himself and that Huck should not live with the Widow Douglas, but with his father instead. In the rising action, Huck is kidnapped by his father and forced to stay in a cabin while his father bought whiskey and got drunk. After some time, Huck does not feel safe living with his father any more and decides to run away. Before Huck runs away, he fakes his own death to make it seem like he has been murdered. Huck also wants to help Jim reach a free state, so they head towards Cairo. Instead of arriving at Cairo, they pass it by mistake and they reach a town where a family takes in Huck and keeps Jim. The family is involved in a dangerous feud which kills some of the family members. Huck and Jim get back on their raft and on their journey, they find two men claiming to be a duke and a king. The duke and king take advantage of Huck and Jim and make them help out with their plays. When the duke and king hear about a large fortune that is supposed to be inherited by the brothers of a diseased man, they claim that they are the long lost brothers and fool everyone into giving up the money. The climax can be considered when Huck decides to tell one of the family members of the diseased man that the brothers are actually frauds. Not long after, the real brothers show up and the rest of the family is furious
