Zane The book Night by Elie Weisel is a memoir about Elie’s time in the Holocaust. In this book Elie has strong human connections that help keep his desire to live through all the terrible things he has to overcome. He had a strong connection with his father. Just remembering that his father needed him prevented him from losing hope, and dying. His connection with his friends Tibi and Yossi, caused a moment of laughter that gave Elie the hope that better days will come. Even a French woman who was a stranger to Elie, told him words that inspired him to fight even in the darkest times. In Night by Elie Weisel, if Elie did not have many strong human connections with people in the concentration camps he never would have survived. One moment where the theme of human connection is shown is when Elie runs to the next concentration camp. He struggles to keep going, but he thinks to himself, “I had no right to let myself die. What would he do without me? I was his sole support.” (87) Here, Elie is talking about his father. This shows how strong their connection is because Elie did not let himself die, because he did not know what his father would do without him. A French woman who works near Elie wipes some blood off his forehead and says “Bite your lips, little brother … Don’t cry. Keep your anger, your hate, for another day, for later. The day will come but not now … Wait. Clench your teeth and wait …” (53) This shows human connection because the French woman tells Elie to save his anger, and use it another day where he will need it. This saved his strength for later, and helps him survive when he is on the brink of death.
