Humans are afraid of sharks for various reasons. Some of those reasons are the shark’s size. Humans tend to be afraid of bigger animals, especially when they are known to have killed humans in the past, which is another reason humans are afraid of sharks. One other reason humans are afraid of sharks is because sharks have been misunderstood and they have been portrayed as something they’re not. There are over four hundred species of sharks in the ocean and sharks are considered the most dangerous animals in the ocean. Most people confuse them as being human-killers.
What most people don’t know is that sharks are simply mistaking people as prey. Sharks don’t feed on humans. What happens a lot of the time is a shark will see a surfer on a surfboard from below and mistake them as a seal or other prey. The shark will then attack the surfer. The movie “Jaws” is actually why a great number of people are afraid of sharks. This movie has also greatly impacted great white sharks and their numbers. The movie created this false notion that great white sharks were human-killers that wanted nothing more than to eat humans. Because of this false notion there was a lot of hatred formed and lots of fisherman were targeting the great whites. There was even “shark tournaments”. This caused a significant decline in their numbers. Another problem with this movie was that they made it seem like sharks are vengeful and will target certain human beings. They also made the sharks in the movie significantly bigger than sharks in real life are and people got this idea that there were “super-killer sharks” out there in the ocean. It sounds pretty ridiculous that humans can be influenced by a movie but even a movie can have a significant affect on some
