Are We Living In Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451? After reading the article Are We Living In Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 I have come to the conclusion that I do agree we are living in Fahrenheit 451 for many reasons. Over the past couple of years many people have forgotten what real communication is all about, it is not about tweeting and texting to each other it is all about real face to face interaction. According to the article it states that “similar kinds of arguments about the dangers of the web and social media” (Ingram 2) have also been made.
Journal #3 Novel Study Fahrenheit 451 Set in the futuristic world controlled by media, Fahrenheit 451 tells the story of the protagonist Montag, a fireman whose job is to burn book, his search for knowledge and self-identity. Books are considered illegal and banned because they make people think and question. I feel sympathy for Montag as his wife does not have any emotional attachment to him as she only care about her “family” on the parlor walls and betrayed Montag by reporting to the firemen that he has books in his possession. Montag also faces numbers of obstacles in his journey for self-identity. Fahrenheit 451 shares many similarities of the setting in the novel The Giver.
A large majority of books use many types of literary elements and devices. An example of a literary device is imagery; the five senses. This is one of the most descriptive types of writing as it conveys what the character is feeling or smelling. It’s a more human way of writing in some ways. In the book Fahrenheit 451, the character Montag has a large amount of internal struggle throughout the book.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, published in 1953 during Global Tension, is a book where the main character is a “fireman” whose job is to burn books and the buildings they are found in.
“If they give you ruled paper, write the other way.” -Juan Ramon Jimenez. Things are lead the wrong way when technology becomes more developed. There are a lot of things that are changed, and the change is not for the better. People are just to in sync to notice that things aren’t right at all.
“The bravest of individuals is one who obeys his or her conscience.” - J.F. Clark. This suggests, that someone who listens to their conscience, is considered to be a brave individual. In terms of agreeing, or disagreeing with this critical lens, I agree, because it often takes a great deal of courage to do what you truly believe is correct.
Imagine a world where firemen start fires instead of putting them out. Fahrenheit 451 is set in a utopian, or dystopian to us, society, where books are burned and people rarely have real social interaction. Although Fahrenheit 451 seems nowhere close to our society, we are both alike and different to their world. The freedom of information is both very different and somewhat alike.
How do books represent us? Answer: We are represented by the knowledge and existence of our past history , our present situations, and future generations through the words written on the pages of books. Cite the evidence: In the writings of Ray Bradbury, the world as well as the people within it are depicted as emotionless and have no feeling.
Would it be normal for ones house to burn down just because the individual owns books? In Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag, a fireman, has his house burnt down by his own co-workers because he reads and takes some books from the houses he burned down. During the era this novel takes place people do not read books, if they do there would be serious consequences. Although the media can be useful, it can lead to people forgetting about the knowledge literature gives and importance of it which can lead to consequences for those individuals.

In Ray Bradbury’s novel Fahrenheit 451, one of the most prominent themes is conformity vs. individuality. The society in which the characters live is very boring and plain. Most of the population is inconsiderate and selfish, and the people that are unique are often made feel unwelcome. Mildred Montag -- the protagonist Guy Montag’s wife -- is almost identical to every citizen in the civilization.
What if humanity never recalled the past because books and literature were constantly destroyed? The main process of learning results from trial and error, in which one tries, fails, then tries again in order to find a successful procedure. Humans have made a myriad of mistakes in the past, and many authors and illustrators have taken these mistakes into account, creating art, novels, and other works of literature to ensure that the same mistakes will not be repeated. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, society is rid of all books by firemen that engulf the books in flames until they are merely ashes, thus also taking the lessons which were learned by the author. John Dos Passos once said, “Individuality is freedom lived.” The root of individuality lies in freedom. Without freedom, there is an inability to think for oneself and share one’s ideas. In a society where this freedom is lacking, people will not think for themselves and submit to whatever rule is enforced over them. In Fahrenheit 451, the government attempts to control freedom as a means towards reaching a perfect society.

Fahrenheit 451 –Analytical Essay There are a few common aspects of the setting of Fahrenheit 451, a book by Ray Bradbury and today’s society. Just like any books being burned in Fahrenheit 451, our government holds certain information as classified and does not let it out to the general public. Both societies use censorship as a way of limiting knowledge. Oversight and surveillance continue to be allowed at an alarming rate and was a part of Bradbury’s concerns. Fitting in and being "normal” or mainstream are not as accepted in either setting.
In Ray Bradbury’s book Farenheit 451, it is illegal to own books, and society deems people who “think” and “question” unfit and those people are wanted by the government. In the novel, Bradbury ironically pictures firemen as a group of men who create fires, and the people who “think” and “question” are killed. In this book themes of conformity verses individuality, importance of remembering and understanding history, and freedom of speech and the consequences of losing it. These three thematic ideas are major factors that contributed to how the society’s everyday life is executed.
