Human trafficking is an issue plaguing the modern age in many different forms. The official definition of human trafficking is “the action or practice of illegally transporting people from one country or area to another” (Dictionary.com). However, this issue is more nuanced than the definition lets on. A person who trafficks other people typically does it for profit, but the roles to which those people are trafficked vary. For example, in Eastern Europe, human trafficking occurs in the form of sexual exploitation. Within the Balkan network of sexual trafficking of men, women, and young children, Albania is a source country from which Albanian citizens are trafficked to other nearby countries like Croatia, Bulgaria, and Greece. Consisting of more than thirty organizations the CCOAHT, creates plans to end human trafficking by raising awareness to the issue. By speaking to various governments and public officials, the collation aims to prevent trafficking from occurring and combating it in areas it already happens. In countries where this issue is prevalent prevention projects are enacted, and training and other assistance is provided. Another way the CCOAHT fights this issue is by providing safe haven for victims, in the United States. These victims are given assistance and counseled to help them cope with the tragedy they have faced. The goal of these services is to empower the victims and help them start a new life, and reintegrate into society. This coalition emphasizes the importance of the Life and Dignity of the Human Person, and the Option of the Poor and Vulnerable. All humans have a right to fair treatment and it is the duty of all Catholics to ensure those in need receive this treatment. Undocumented immigrants are frequently forced into slavery in service jobs, such as maids, cooks, or construction work. These people are given meager salaries and are threatened with being reported to the authorities if they strike or complain. To combat this, our immigration system needs to be overhauled. A path to citizenship will ensure that the same laws can protect all people working in the US. This idea may seem like a stretch to some, but given the current political environment more Americans are paying attention to the issue of immigration than ever before. California has already taken steps towards granting amnesty for undocumented immigrants and increasing their protection under the law, so there is hope that the rest of the country can do the
