India is known for its colorful weddings, festivals, culture, wealth, and their very own film industry, however, there’s a dark secret hunting the women and children of India. India has several forms of human trafficking, which include labor trafficking, organ trafficking, and sex trafficking. The sex trafficking industry is known as the fastest-growing organized crime industry in the world. Every year thousands of women and children are put into the hands of traffickers, by their own family members through the promise of marriage or being offered false job opportunities, as a way to escape poverty, but are forced into sex work. The UN has listed India as one of the main countries that have failed to combat their human trafficking issue.

There are many different villages in India, however, Bangladesh and Nepal are the main areas these victims are recruited and trafficked in Mumbai. This action shows that there is a major issue with India’s legal system. Like almost everywhere else there are corrupted police that is benefiting from the forced commercial sex operation. In this case, India’s police are known to treat the victims as criminals or ignoring their complaint entirely. There are many claims made by the MOIA, that they have a well-invested program to help rescue victims that provide services to ensure a better life for them. However, there is more record of victims being punished than rescued or protected. The women and children of rural areas are subject to mistreatment, abuse, and neglect.
