In the story Camp Harmony, by Monica Stone, irony is used by the author to convey a message. For example, the word itself means “agreement; accord; harmonious relations”, according to Dictionary.com. The author, however, describes how inharmonious the camp is, “What was I doing behind a fence, like a criminal?If there were accusations to be made, why hadn’t I been given a fair trial?” (Stone, 323). This quote shows how at the time, the author was so confused as to why she and her family was at the camp when they had done nothing to deserve imprisonment.
Ernest Lawrence Thayer uses humor many times throughout his poem Casey at the Bat. he uses similes, alliteration, personification, and hyperbole's, that can be used in an attempt at humor, throughout the text. The author may use humor in his poem to lighten the mood or make a happier setting for the reader who may be a younger child. An example of humor in Casey at the Bat is "From the benches, black from people, there went up a muffled roar, like the beating of the storm waves on a stern distant shore."
The story "Casey at the bat" was humorous because Casey had a plan to make a better hit or get a home run but when he goes to hit the ball he doesn't do either of the two. The one scene that uses irony is when King Duncan finds that a man was a traitor and gives Macbeth the title Thane of Cawdor believing he is a good man in Act 1, scene 2 page 353.
