Why is humor used by many people? Many people have things that they find funny. I find lots of things funny such as, farts, people, falling and shorter people. In the book “Priscilla and The Wimps” it mentions a story about a short kid. There's always a bigger scarier fish in the sea. In the short story there is lots of high comedy. They use high comedy to make fun of Melvin's height because throughout the story he is described as short with puns. This is high comedy because it caricatures short people so you would have to make fun of short people or be short yourself. High comedy isn't something you should understand right away if I gave you a short paragraph from the short story talking about Melvin's height you probably wouldn’t understand but, if you read the whole short story you understand the short paragraph because melvins short the story is short so it makes comedy. Most of the elements used were puns. Puns are jokes exploring the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words that sound alike but have different meanings. Another one used is Caricature the definition of caricature is a visual or verbal repression in which characterizes or traits are distorted for emphasis. These are both used to describe and make Melvin being short funny. Paragraph 19 1st sentence states “ Who’s grown even smaller in spite of himself.” This is talking about Melvin and how he does not believe in himself but they use the word smaller to mock his
