WGU also helped me sharpen my critical thinking skills in order to make decisions quickly and provide safe and effective care to patients. As the result of my training, I am ready to embark in the field of nursing and do my best to make a difference in my patients lives.
These internships helped me get an inside perspective of how nurses go above and beyond their everyday duties to ensure patient care, setting a standard for me to go above and beyond in terms of my education, my service to others, and in life. With the changes in college tuition having increased and state support for college students having taken a decrease over the last couple of years, this scholarship would benefit me tremendously in my goals to continue my education.

Profile Essay While working several shifts in an Alzheimer's unit in a local care facility, I had the opportunity to meet a registered nurse named Sarah. Sarah had plenty of insight on what it is like being a nurse in a facility. During my observations of her duties I witnessed many things that opened my eyes as to what I want in my future career choices.

Through my studies of human expression and its reflection of how people deal with world events in different ways, I developed sensitivity to other worldviews that continues to prove useful through my daily interactions with people of different backgrounds. I have learned that just like art, medicine involves pattern recognition and derives insight from experiences. Similarly, what I especially enjoy about being a medical assistant is interacting with patients on a daily basis and getting to be a part of their medical experiences, even if it is just by lending an ear. The experiences on my path to a career in medicine have made me want to make a real, tangible difference in the lives of those around me – a difference that leaves my patients in a better condition than they were in before I met them.

Personal Statement for Nursing School “When a person decides to become a Nurse. They make the most important decision of their lives. They choose to dedicate themselves to the care of others” Growing up in Nigeria; I had my first introduction to the field of medicine at the age of 6. At the time, my grand father was a holistic doctor at my local community. Whenever my grandfather went to work, he would take me with him and I remembered being very fascinated by how people would come in to get treatments for different kinds of diseases.
My Intent to Be a Nurse Practitioner Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.
Making a difference I started my health care career as a nursing assistant at the young age of 16 years-old perusing the dream of one day becoming a nurse. At that time, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into and what it meant to be in the health care. I have been able to touch and impact so many different people’s lives throughout the last 6 years from patients and residents to their family members. Sometimes not even realizing that I was changing someone’s life. Although I’ve helped hundreds of people there is one person that will I will always remember.
I thank everyone for giving me this opportunity to receive this award. But before I get really into thanking everyone I would like to say a few words first about who I truly am and how I came to the spot I am in now. Joining a professional association for nurses is one of my short-term goals. In this association, I aim to identify mentors to spearhead my learning patterns. Similarly, I frequently attend specialty conferences besides getting involved in different exchange programs that improve my communication skills. On the other hand, one of my priorities in forming my long-term goal is to advance in educational career. Climbing up the ladder to achieve a master degree in nursing will be the first commendable achievement.
