The Hunger Games The movie ‘Hunger Games’ is about the government, or known as The Capitol, uses the game to control its treason population. In the movie, there are 12 districts and every year, each district will choose a male and female between the age of 12 and 18 via lottery as “tributes”. Those who are selected as a tribute will be pitched against each other and fight until the last person stands. The reason stated for these games is to remind the formerly rebellious districts that they are still in control by The Capitol. The main character of the movie is Katniss Everdeen. Even with her father’s death, Katniss still managed to carry on. In District 12, the foods supplies are mostly limited. She is independent and self-sufficient that she was able to ensure the survival of herself and her family, which consist of her mother and her sister Primrose from starving. She can hunt, gather and barter for goods from the dealer. If it were not for Katniss’s action, her family would have close to zero chance of surviving. Her ability to fend for herself is what will ensure the health conditions and the safety of her family. Her family’s survival is contingent upon Katniss. Therefore, she had to realize what it is that one needs in order to strive and prosper. Although her life is hard, life throws obstacles to her and she eventually deals with it. Sponsors in the Hunger Games play a very important role. They are the key of life or death which they will support the needs for the tribute during the game. For example, Katniss’ leg was burned and the sponsor supported her by sending her the medicine that she needs for her leg. Katniss is well-known in winning over the sponsor’s heart every time, in which she would always score the highest point during the training, done many impressive moves in the game, and the most successful key she did is to pretend to fall in love with Peeta Mellark. Therefore, Katniss became the pillar for her family which played a very important role like her father. Katniss had no choice but to become responsible and resourceful at a young age, which lead her to participate in rebellious behavior in order to keep her family alive. She went for the illegal hunt which was beyond the border of the town. She also sold her games at the black market for other supplement. This ignited her rebellious attitude and disregarded the rules as she grew up. She realizes that the only way to survive was by breaking the rules and doing things her way. During the evaluation section before the start of the Hunger Games, Katniss shot an arrow to the apple which was beside the game maker’s head. Also, her biggest rebellion was when she decided to kill both herself and Peeta at the climax of the movie when they did not want to follow the Capitol’s wishes and will. “Yes, they have to have a victor. Without a victor the whole thing would blow up in the Gamemakers’ faces. They’d have failed the Capitol. If Peeta and I were both to die, or they thought we were…” said by Katniss.
