For this task I will be presenting about Katniss Everdeen from the hunger games and how she is a tragic hero and I will be relating this back to the greek hero Oedipus. What makes a hero, a hero as stated by the reproject “Are people who transform compassion (a personal virtue) into heroic action (a civic virtue). In doing so, they put their best selves forward in service to humanity. A hero is as an individual or a network of people that take action on behalf of others in need, or in defense of integrity or a moral cause” (prezi.com). As you all know Katniss is the main character of hunger games and is identified as a tragic hero from the beginning to the end of the story.
Now in this story it is not the fancy wigs or the sparkles of the Capital that make it that way. It is the Hunger Games. Once a year all twelve districts of Panem have a reaping, where one boy and one girl from each district are chosen (or forced) to play in the hunger games. This year Katniss and Peeta from district 12 were chosen along with many others. During the games the Tributes fight to the death and there can only be one survivor, but while Peeta and Katniss establish a love connection in the arena they refuse to kill each other and are about to swallow some poisonous berries and end it together when the game makers intervene to keep the people in the district's happy and let them both live.
It was after the American Revolution. The colonies had just broken free from the reign of Great Britain. The people were weak, tired, but ready to start a new country. There were many arguements about how the government should work: whether or not there should be a strong central government or a weak one. Eventually, a strong central government was decided upon, and then the problem of who was going to run it became a question in everyone’s minds.
Human nature seems to be totally different in the next novel. In The Hunger Games, a male and female are selected out of twelve districts every year to participate in the games. The point of the game is to be placed in an inescapable battlefield and fight to the death. If a character wins the games you receive money, food, a house, and prestige. Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are a part of the annual game.
The Hunger Games is an unparalleled and daunting movie expressing how the world of a sixteen-year-old girl is turned upside down. Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist of the novel and film development, faces setbacks in her life that make for harsh decisions as well as a change in viewpoint. Accompanied by supporters around her including her friends and family, she must learn to navigate past the difficulties she faces. The Hunger Games presents a story of cruelty and indifference in a dystopian world. Each year, there are games that occur involving all the districts as an attempt at peace after years of war.
The Hunger Games: Chapter Notes Chapter One: It was the morning of the reaping, Katniss was reflecting on the events of her life. This introduces the characters main family, prim, and her mother. In order to clear her mind, Katniss went hunting in the woods near the edge of District 12. While there, Katniss 's friend Gale showed up to I an escape plan before the reaping can began. Katniss declines the offer and heads to the square for the reaping.
One afternoon Shirley Jackson decided to write “The Lottery,” all in one day. Jackson sets up the story by describing specific details about the town and where they were gathering to form a twisted end. “The Lottery,” and “The Hunger Games,” seem to have quite a few similarities. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and The Lottery by Shirley Jackson both show how humans are drawn to violent traditions and the hypocrisy human’s possess towards violence. I do believe author Suzanne Collins was influenced by Jackson to create her novels.
The announcement said that there may be two winners of the Hunger Games if they are from the same district. This urged Katniss to find Peeta, as she's walking she sees a blood trail. As she follows the blood trail she hears a weak voice saying “Don’t step on me”. It was Peeta, Katniss nursed him back to health. She washed his wounds and wrapped his leg up.
In the first installment of the Hunger Games series we are greeted to the character Katniss Everdeen. Katniss and her family reside in the lowly District 12, the coal mining district, where the felling of death and despair is a guarantee. After the death of her father in a coal mining accident Katniss must do whatever she must in order to ensure the survival of her family and herself. Directed by Gary Ross the film was both a critical and financial success.
The intended outcome from performing the above-described necessary actions is that the EOP is current and ready for use if any of the identified hazards occurs. Katniss and Peeta develop a complicated relationship throughout the novel, and conflicts of interests, plus the entire nature of their relationship can be can be easily scrutinized, once closely examined. From the beginning of the novel, Peeta goes out of his way to care for Katniss, and at one point suffers phsical abuse from his mother in order to feed her a loaf of bread. “The boy took one look back to the bakery as if checking that the coast 32 was clear, then, his attention back on the pig, he threw a loaf of bread in my direction. The second quickly followed, and he sloshed back to the bakery, closing the kitchen door tightly behind him.” (Collins 32).
At this point in the story, they have finally reached the surreal moment of winning the Hunger Games. In chapter twenty, page three hundred and forty five, the text states," '... Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to present the victors of the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark!' I give you---the tributes of District 12!' " Katniss's perseverance has paid off.
The Hunger Games and women in society: Suzanne Collins author of “The Hunger Games” designed Katniss Everdeen as the idealistic image of women in society. Her strength, skills, and self-control make her a figure of a woman perfect to match how our society wants women to be like and Suzanne wants that to stand out and make us think about it. Suzanne Collins wants to express how she thinks female should be like in everyday life and express that Katniss is much more than just a character, she is a message that is being sent to all the readers. Katniss breaks all the already established stereotypes by being able to survive, improvise and control herself in bad moments when even the toughest person would break apart. Katniss is strong since she was born she was being “tested”, she knows a wide variety of survival skills and her knowledge expands even more when she starts practicing for the hunger games.
The famous Roman orator and senator Publius Tacitus once wrote that “the more the laws, the more corrupt the government.” A corrupt system always tries to put restrictions and create laws in order to ensure that their power as an authority is not in danger of being disregarded. In Suzanne Collins’ renowned novel The Hunger Games, the Capitol is a corrupt system in Panem because it abuses its powers to control the citizens. It does so by forcing restrictions on the freedom of the people, favoring the rich and imposing harsh punishments.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a story about Katniss Everdeen who lives in district 12 with her mom and her sister Prim. Her sister gets picked for the Hunger Games which is where each of the 12 districts have to give a boy and a girl from the ages of 12-18 do fight till the death until there is one person standing. This is because there was an outbreak against the capitals thats why there is the Hunger Games. Katniss volunteers do her sister and now has to try and win the games. One theme in this story that is shown is that family love can go along way, this is shown because she is very overprotective of Prim.
