Dystopian Societies A dystopian society by definition is the exact opposite of a utopia. This means that nothing is perfect, or peaceful. Everything is chaos and nothing works out right. This could be because of a rebellion, because a group has too much power, or because the main goal of a society did not work out as planned. The stories “Harrison Bergeron”, Animal Farm, and The Hunger Games are huge examples of these situations. “Harrison Bergeron” is a prime example of a dystopian society. She goes after Harrison herself and while in the middle of a romantic moment with his new found queen she shoots them. In the midst of all this chaos you figure out that basicly the only reason the government wants the handicaps is the ensure their power and that they won’t be rebelled against, which is one of the reasons this is a dystopian society. In a dystopian society a huge problem is when the government has too much power because it gives them the ability to do whatever they want to and the civilians can not do anything about it. Now in this story it is not the fancy wigs or the sparkles of the Capital that make it that way. It is the Hunger Games. Once a year all twelve districts of Panem have a reaping, where one boy and one girl from each district are chosen (or forced) to play in the hunger games. This year Katniss and Peeta from district 12 were chosen along with many others.During the games the Tributes fight to the death and there can only be one survivor, but while Peeta and Katniss establish a love connection in the arena they refuse to kill each other and are about to swallow some poisonous berries and end it together when the game makers intervene to keep the people in the district's happy and let them both live. Now, you do not need me to tell you that all this is why Panem is a Dystopian Society. Another reason why though is how President Snow reacted to all of this. He was not very happy that katniss and peeta had found a way to outsmart the capitol and the gamemakers. So he set out to basically ruin Katniss’s life because she was trying to rebel. He didn’t like that his power was being taken away so he was going to try to get it back, But because he had to power of intimidation and could pretty much kill anyone and get away with it no one could do anything.Which leads us back to the power struggle, because the government had too much power no one else could do
