Alan Rudolph, film director, once said, “ It’s part of the general global hypnotism to accept lies as the new truth.” In the play, Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare demonstrates how characters tend to lie to benefit each other or for love. In many events, people are always lying for many reasons which can affect each individual.
For example, in the play, Maria said, “ I will drop in his way some obscure epistles of love; wherein, by the colour of his beard, the shape of his leg, the manner of his gait, the expressure of his eye, forehead, and complexion, he shall find himself most feelingly personated. I can write very like my lady your niece: on a forgotten matter we can hardly make distinction of our hands”
(Shakespeare 2.3 856-860). Maria lied to Malvolio by writing a letter which states that Olivia adores Malvolio and she wants him to return his love to her by always smiling at her and wear his yellow stocking. Therefore, this demonstrates how Maria lied to Malvolio so it can benefit herself by fooling Malvolio to think that Olivia likes him and so he can present himself as an insane man to Olivia.

In other words, Olivia lied to Malvolio by telling him that Cesario had left a ring, and in which he needs to return it back to Cesario. Ergo, this shows how Olivia wants to see Cesario again, but she doesn’t want anyone to know that she has fallen in love, so she made a lied that Cesario had left a ring from his master. Furthermore, another lie is when Viola states, “The form of my intent. I'll serve this duke:
