The book that I have chosen for this semester was “Life in motion”, an autobiography by Misty Copeland. I personally chose to read this book because it is about a dancer and I am a dancer. The book that I chose to read was all about the hidden secrets that the southern people keep. These secrets helped their southern town stay alive while also preserving the history. This book made me think of the south in a different way and it also made me realize that there is more than what meets the eye, especially in a small town. The book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, by John Berendt, sparked my interest because of my deep love for the south, the mystery of the murder, and the description of the unique people found in Savannah Georgia.
Nujood Ali has faced a multitude of horrors from a very young age: being forced into an arranged marriage with an older man at the age of nine, sexual abuse, physical abuse, running away, having family turn a blind eye on your suffering or be an accomplice to it. However, the true horror lies in the fact that Nujood is not the only victim of these atrocities. So, why is Nujood’s story so important? My book is Heaven is Paved with Oreos, By Catherine Gilbert Murdock. Summary: Sara Zorn is an average 14-year-old girl. She’s smart, funny, awkward, shy. Sara has a crush on her best guy-friend, Curtis Schwenk, but doesn’t realize it, saying she isn’t a “boy-liker”.
I would have to say that one of many books that has helped to form my understanding of my faith is actually the book called Daisy Head Mayzie by Dr. Seuss. This story is about a girl who at the very beginning of the story is just like everyone else though rather quickly it becomes apparent, when she sprouts a daisy on her head, that she is rather different from everyone else. Over the course of the book she faces teasing and fame along with the desire to be normal and hating all of the attention. When I look back and try to imagine what I was thinking while reading this book it is initially hard because I was five years old when the book came out.
I read the book The Indian School by Gloria Whelan and the genre is Biography. In my book there is 96 pages. According to goodreads.com someone wrote that “the book sends a good message about the importance of maintaining a person’s culture, especially for children. ”I think this would be a good book for 8-12 and it would be the perfect for these ages because it the vocabulary is not to hard and if you love read about story 's from the past this would be a great book for you. The protagonists in this book the is a girl named Lucy and a girl named Raven.
The book I chose to read for Unit 4 was the book, “Everything, Everything”, by Nicola Yoon. The book’s cast of characters is few, the main character who we’re seeing the world through is named Madeline Whittier, but she goes by Maddy for most of the book. The other protagonist besides Maddy is her neighbor, a boy named Olly, who Maddy finds interesting. The book has no clear antagonist, but the implied antagonist is Maddy’s mother, who prevents Maddy from going outside. Besides the three of them, there is also Carla, Maddy’s personal nurse, and Olly’s family, comprised of a sister, mother, and an abusive father.
So with this information in mind , these are some of the books that have influenced my character and therefore my literature journey . My favorite memories either include an animal a friend or me upside down in my bed ( my favorite reading spot ) with a good book . Reading was always a safe place away from boredom and annoying siblings . One of the books I remember the most was a broad purple heavy book called ‘ Bible Stories for Kids’ I remember how at first I only read it because it was the only book in my little “library” that I had not read ; A story that stands out among others is the story of Jesus walking on water ; I can distinctly remember the first time I read this story , I was in an airplane on my way to Reynosa , Tamaulipas to visit my family.
During summer while other kids were outside having fun, i was indoors with my AC on reading different kind of books because of a soccer injury i had. If it wasn 't for that injury i don 't think i would of ever gotten a book on my own. It all started with an injury to a book that became the book that kept me going to find more books to read. The book is called " A Child Called It: One Child 's Courage to Survive" by David Pelzer. Before this i thought all books were boring but this one totally changed my mind.
Parenting style I can relate to a number of parent of parenting behaviors in the trailer “Parenthood.” I know this is supposed to be funny and some is exagerated, however, I can relate to the parenting style of Gil and Karen Buckman. They raise their children with lots of love, understanding and humor. However, I can also relate to the parenting style of Nathan Huffner. He wants his daughter to be the best of the best.
For as long as I can remember I have loved reading. Fiction, non-fiction, biographies, it doesn’t really matter to me. I remember my mom trying to teach me how to read when I was three. I started off reading small Dr. Suess books and then it was on to newspapers and chapter books. One of my all-time favorite books when I was a kid was Junie B. Jones.
Today the books that always manage to get my attention are usually the books based on true events. My earliest memory of being read to isn’t necessarily being read to by my parents but being read to by teachers. Both my parents were always working, so they never had time to read to me. I didn’t have any older siblings to help me so when I started school, it was the first time I was exposed to reading.
