The book "A Long Walk to Water" by Linda Sue Park explores the life of Salva, an 11-year-old boy living in South Sudan, after he is displaced by the Sudanese Civil War. First, in 1985, Salva and his classmates are instructed to run into the bush to escape the gunfire that was heard not far from the school. Then, he joins a group of travelers who are walking away from the war in Sudan, but they abandon him in a barn one evening while he is still asleep. After spending a few days with the barn's owner, Salva is sent away with a different group of travelers, must of whom accept him grudgingly. The group walks for a month toward Ethiopia, and eventually they arrive to the Itang refugee camp in Ethiopia.

People who endured a life-changing event can respond positively or negatively. In the autobiography “I Never Had It Made”, by Jackie Robinson, the memoir,” Warriors don't cry”, by Melba Pattillo Beals, and the article, by “ The father of Chinese Aviation”, by Rebecca Maskell, each of the individuals faced a turning point. Jackie Robinson, Melba Pattillo Beals, Feng Ru faced life-changing experiences that altered both their lives and their countries.
This form of oppression was known as Jim Crow laws, which allowed a sort of legal discrimination towards Blacks. The need for a march was first thought of in the early 1940’s when A. Philip Randolph who was the president of the Negro American Labor Council wanted to combat discriminatory hiring toward African Americans. Fast forward to 1963, the year that the March On Washington occurred, America hit the 100th year mark for the passing of the Emancipation Proclamation set forth by Abraham Lincoln. This was a reminder to the nation of the need to alleviate racial tension. With that being said, people from all different races set aside their differences in order to collaborate for the march.
The purpose of “Why, You Reckon?” by Langston Hughes is to accurately display, through the times of that century and human emotion, that despite money, power, and the color of your skin there can still be an unhappiness of the soul. Throughout the history of the US, there were many movements and acts that emphasize the rights, justice, and equality of every US citizen, they were needed to push the society move forward. There were some that failed after a long time because of lacking supports from the people, but there also many movements that were so successful that changed the whole way how the US handles Democracy and its people rights. Those movements were maybe not last for a long time but were needed to show everyone that the power and wealth of a nation come through its citizen, and each person has the power to fight for their happiness and equality. In many righteous acts that the people have started, there were two acts that made an enormous change to the US political and economic system, not only they improve the people lives, they were also the main reason why America is such promising and full of opportunities to the eyes of many immigrants. Those two are The Populist Movement and The Progressive era.

Some protested by boycotting work due to the amount of immigrants in their workplace. Everyone just wanted to be able to support their respective family and with more jobs being taken up it was hard for Americans to do that. Immigrants also still had a hard time finding a job. Even when they did, they worked just as hard if not harder than others, but got paid much less than the average white male. The discriminatory actions that occurred in this time period not only happened in public, but in the workplace and essentially everywhere.
Many different groups in the United States have fought for their equal rights through civil rights battles. Each one inspiring the next, slowly transforming America into the country it is today. Some of these battles have come a long way, since the beginning of history for a lot, some of which are still in the mist of being fought, some of which made huge improvements yet still haven’t reached full equality. Through the many steps taken in marches, and blood and tears shed though the riots, all these battles though has change the way Americans see one another and their country. Going for the common goal of equality, these civil rights movements have changed America for the greater good.
