“Hannelore, your papa is dead,” (Hillman 9). This quote is in the letter that Hannelore received in the book, I Will Plant you a Lilac Tree, by Laura Hillman. This was the letter Hannelore got that told her that her father was dead. Soon after that, she got another letter from her family saying that her brothers, Selly and Wolfgang, and her mother, were being deported. The only choice that she had left was to go with her family away from her Jewish boarding school and help them. Hannelore is very determined to help her family through the harsh times even when she is not with them. Hannalore is a round character in this book because we know what she is thinking and what she looks like inside and out. Along the way she meets a Polish soldier named Dick. Dick is a round character in this book because as the reader I am able to feel his emotions inside and out. Dick is also a dynamic character because at the beginning of the book he was persevering through the tough times and then he got weak and undetermined, but by the end he was persevering again. This is my favorite part of the book because this is a depressing time in the world and they are beaming with joy at the moment. One thing that fascinated me during this part of the story is when the person who was announcing the jews that Schindler was saving was talking super slow. I think the announcer was talking very slowly because he wanted to surprise all of the jews and fill them with happiness. One thing that I found interesting during this part of the book is when Dick told Hannelore that this was going to happen to her. I found this interesting because I would think that Dick would want to surprise her. Another one of my favorite parts from this novel is when Hannelore finds out about Oscar Schindler and how he has already saves 1,300 jews. This is one of my favorite parts because she discovers that she has a chance to escape. Another reason why this was one of my favorite parts is because she Dick told her that this might happen and it
