Pay attention to the important things, because if not, they will have dreadful consequences. In the story "Icarus and Daedalus" by Josephine Preston. In this story, a very talented and very famous architect and his son are being held captive by the king of Crete. The architect, Daedalus, builds wings that can make people fly. Yet, the wings could not get too close to the sun or they would melt. Unfortunately, Icarus, the architect's son, did not listen to his dad, and in a moment of absolute bliss, he accidentally flew too close to the sun and drowned. The tone of the passage changes from contempt and joy to sorrow, all because Icarus decided to ignore his father and fly too close to the sun.

When a great wind hit their wings, Icarus was overcome with a feeling of contempt, but it sustained him, and he was filled with bliss. Likewise, the author includes in paragraph 8, "Icarus felt himself sustained...like a child uplifted by his mother, he forgot everything in the world but joy." Icarus was filled with so much joy that he did not think about anything else, and he completely forgot about the dangers of flying. His mind was so full of contempt and bliss that he did not think about anything else and just wanted to fly higher and higher. One moment he was so filled with joy, and all because he kept flying higher and higher, but then he fell. Furthermore, the author even includes this quote in paragraph 10: "He fell like a leaf tossed down the wind, down, down, with one cry that overtook Daedalus far away." Hearing his son scream as he fell to his death overtook Daedalus. It was Icarus's one action that made a drastic change in Daedalus, he went from a feeling
