1 - Identify 5 character traits to describe Sir Gawain. For each trait, provide one example from the story.
Sir Gawain demonstrated generosity through giving up his life as a knight of the round table who may have one day found a beautiful wife, to marry the Loathly Lady. In order for the king to make good of his promise he must give the Lady a knight to marry, Sir Gawain volunteered to wed with the Loathly Lady so that no other knight would have to. He also showed kindness, for even though the Loathly Lady was a horrible sight to see, he married her, he danced with her and helped her overcome her curse. Aswell he was ambitious because even before the King had told him what he would have to do to bring the King honor he volunteered without a second thought. Perseverance was a trait shown in the story, even after he say the Loathly Lady he stayed true to his word and married her. He was also demonstrated courage. When the novel stated “Gawain looked stunned, but his spirit never faltered.” it shows his bravery and courage, for these character traits come from within and he may have been scared but he worked through it.

Gawain was the character who volunteered to marry the Lady so that his king would not lose his honor. Heros give up their needs and want for the needs of others. Gawain gave up his life to help his king. Also, gawain was the one who ended up breaking the spell for the Loathly Lady. The Lady may have given the young knight clues but in the end it was Gawain who came up with the right answer. Even if he had given the wrong answer he had helped the Lady for he broke half the spell by just marrying the her. Aswell he shows courage which one of many of characteristics that defines a hero. Even though the prospect of marrying the Loathly Lady was frightening he persevered through it and stuck to his
